ARTICLES AND ESSAYS FOR THE TYPIKON
OF THE HOLY LAVRA OF ST. SAVVAS
SUMMARY
Dionysios Anatolikiotes had an interest in the liturgical music and the ritual order of the Orthodox Church from a young age. Later he began to systematically study the liturgical sources and ordinances from the 9th century manuscripts up to contemporary publications. After finishing the University he collaborated with a private publisher in writing and editing an annual typicon for ten years (1996-2006). From 2003 up to 2008 he was editor-in-chief of the ecclesiastical ritual review called “Symvoli”: A contribution to the order of the orthodox worship, and he had the opportunity to cooperate with other researchers. Numerous of his written works were published in this issue.
In 2006 the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece entrusted him with the composition of the official yearly Typicon from 2007 up to now. In 2011 he received his Ph.D. from the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, in the Sector of “Byzantine Musicology and Ecclesiastical Ritual”, with the grade “Excellent”. His dissertation was under the topic of Georgios Violakis, the first cantor, the musicologist, the “typicologist” (1820-1911), and it refers to both Georgios Violakis (his personality and his achievements) and the Typicon of the Great Church which was written by G. Violakis and published in 1888 from the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
During this period Dionysios Anatolikiotes wrote various studies in Greek regarding the Typicon of Holy Lavra of St. Savvas, many of which have been published as articles in a variety of periodicals and on the Web yet there are others that have not been published. However, all these works are inuded in this book. Most of these writings are directed not only to those specializing in the field but also to the general public and are therefore written in an uncomplicated manner. At the end of each text a date in parenthesis shows the year of its publication or the year it was written.
